Today is a big day for me — the day I can share with you a little bit of what I have been working on for the last 18 months. I am so excited to be able to share some images from inside the book…
“Small Plates and Sweet Treats: My Family’s Journey To Gluten-Free Cooking”
Lots of labor and lots of love have gone into the making of this book and I hope you enjoy this little sneak peek.
The official release date is October 23, 2012.
There are 120 naturally gluten-free recipes inside the book. Recipes and stories inspired by my childhood in the Basque Country, motherhood, and living as an ex-pat. The book is divided by seasons, as I like to cook in our everyday life, and within each chapter you will find a section for small plates and another for sweet treats.
Small plates as an homage to the raciones and pintxos we eat in the Basque Country when we share with friends — just like I share with you.
I am also excited to let you know that the book is now AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER from the following sellers: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Indie Bound.

I also have thyroid disease and that was my first sign that something was wrong. then it turned into vertigo/hearing loss and that is when finally doctor discovered gluten intolerance. I feel there are so many people walking around with hidden gluten issues…

I’ve been reading your blog for years now…and now more than ever I need your book! I was recently diagnosed with Hashi’s and I’m roller-coastering hyper and hypothyroid (depends on the month)! Now my doc says I have a hormonal imbalance (as a result of insulin spikes…everything’s all related to the thyroid too) and must refrain from eating simple sugars. I thought GF was difficult, but now I guess I’ll have to give up cake too! I look forward to seeing some inspirational photos and recipes in your new book! Will definitely buy it!

This is just beautiful, Aran! My father became gluten sensitive in his final years. We struggled trying to learn to cook and bake gluten-free – there were so few resources then. Now, there’s an absolute bounty of gorgeous GF food. I wish he had lived to experience it. Best of luck with this launch – I think this is the cookbook release I’m most looking forward to.

Dulcistella- Yes, the measurements are both in imperial and metrics. The small plates can be also served as dinner just in larger portions. There are savory tarts, risottos, soups, salads… Also meant to be served in small portions in a large table :)

En casa no tenemos ninguna intolerancia (toco madera que nos quedemos asi)pero a medida que tu alimentacion cambiaba la mia tambien,j,j..comemos de todo unas veces con gluten otras sin, el caso es intentar comer sano.
He hecho y hago muuuuchas recetas tuyas, no fallan y me/nos encantan, eres casi una mas en mi cocina…que ganas de tener el libro!

Jen- Preordering means that you will have a copy guaranteed. It also helps the publisher know how many copies of the book should be printed given the demand, so it’s a helpful tool. Sometimes when you preorder, the bookstore might receive their copies early and ship them before official release date, but usually, they are shipped on release date.

I’ve been GF for almost 3 years, since my grown daughter got the results from genetic testing, & found She has 2 genes for gluten intolerance! Such a Blessing to know!
I encourage anyone w/family members who have CD or intolerance to get the genetic testing, as we now realize intolerance is passed on!

I’ve been GF for almost 3 years, since my grown daughter got the results from genetic testing, & found She has 2 genes for gluten intolerance! Such a Blessing to know!
I encourage anyone w/family members who have CD or intolerance to get the genetic testing, as we now realize intolerance is passed on!
I will see if I can preorder through my local independent bookshop!

I pre-ordered your book some time ago when I found your blog. I am not gluten intolerant, but am dairy intolerant and really like the substitutions you list for dairy. Have tried several of your recipes already and both my husband and I love them. He took leftovers of the beef stew to work, and coworkers commented on the delightful scent, if only they could of tasted it! I love the family stories you shared throughout the book, brought me back to my native Spain remembering the simple life and amazing food I had there as a child.
Can’t wait for your next cookbook!

Your book is such a sensory journey…I can’t wait to try many many of the recipes. Sadly, I cannot eat eggs in addition to being a coeliac, but your recipes give me such hope for future meals.
