2-day food photography workshop with Luisa Brimble | Seattle, October 4-5, 2014

Having my own studio space has been wonderful in so many ways. It reminds me of my grandparents’ pastry shop where all kinds of people walked in and out all day long. I am building a space inspired by those memories – sharing with people I admire and want to learn from.

I want to tell you about another photography workshop that I will be hosting this October in my studio.

Luisa Brimble will be in Seattle all the way from Australia (exclamation mark).

I have been a fan of Luisa’s photography for some time. She captures food and collectiveness with a sense of movement and simplicity that I really respond to. Her work has been widely featured from Kinfolk, Frankie, Cereal, The Simple Things, Broadsheet and The Design Files. Her photography graced the pages Arthur Street Kitchen Community Cookbook published by Pan McMillan, Australia. She’s currently photographing two books which will be due mid 2015.

And now she is coming to Seattle…

This will be a 2-day workshop where you will spend time learning from Luisa and a little bit about me as I will be doing all the food and props styling for her.

On day one, Luisa will discuss photography and camera basics, her approach to lighting, composition, angles and best lenses to get job done. There will be a discussion about working on editorial briefs, planning for photo shoots and the working relationship between photographer and stylist. Luisa and Aran will spend time demonstration how a food photo shoot happens from food and prop styling to finished image. There will also be time hands-on work time for the students under Luisa and Aran’s guidance.

On day two, we will dig deeper into the business aspect of freelance photography and styling. How to build a portfolio, find inspiration, collaborations with brands or other creatives and how to get published.

There will be extensive photo processing time and discussion on how to edit images to tell a story.
