snaefellsnes, iceland

Oh jet-lag….

I am back in Seattle after spending the last 35 days in Europe with my children. Oh jet-lag… I am left without words for now. Brain dead and exhausted. But I wanted to share with you some images from my recent trip to Iceland. Hardly any words needed to describe such beauty.

This is what comes to mind when I think of Iceland…

Grey and so colorful.
Blue, grey, white and then there was yellow moss.
Modern yet still in time.
Beautiful and inhabitable.
And black sand and lava rocks.
Wildflowers.
Wind.
Fermented whale and lobster soup.
Reserved yet so friendly.
Coffee.
24-hour sunlight and sun reflections on Harpa.

Enchanting. Quirky. I must go back.

I was in Iceland to teach a food and travel photography workshop with Ritchie Ace Camps. I will share images from those days as well – there are many beautiful ones that involve lots of food. But first these images of raw and pure nature. I took a day to explore the Snaefellsnes peninsula with Angela and Kreetta. It was quiet, reflective and can I say somewhat spiritual? They say this place has a special connection to the spiritual.

I felt it.

O these are splendid Aran! Snaefellsness is so special, especially held in high regard by those with a creative leaning. My mother-in-law started writing poetry there and it is a special place for all of us, reminding us of sunshine, private crags and beautiful pebble beaches of grey and white.
I look forward to your Iceland post eagerly.

Oh my goodness, your pictures are so enchantingly beautiful! I was there in February, and what a difference between the seasons! You have probably answered this many times over, but what camera and lens do you shoot with? I love the clarity in these images, especially the ones with the seagulls :-) Thanks for sharing!

  24. Iceland is really high on my “places to visit” list. Such a beautiful country.

Of the places I’ve been and after being around the entirety of Iceland, I remain still at a loss for how to describe this small slice of the world. 370+ days later “otherworldly” (in a most majestic sense of the word) is the only word I can formulate.

  27. Iceland has been on my mind for years as a place I want to visit. I can’t quite describe what it is that fascinates me so much…maybe the subtle beauty? I loved to follow your stay in Iceland on Instagram, and I’m so thankful for this post and your thoughts about this rough island.

  28. I just found your blog.. like it! Beautiful photos of my beautiful country :) I agree with everything that you said about Iceland.. It’s wonderful but sometimes you wish for little less wind and little more sun ;)
