Starting the pastry blog
Hello to anyone out there reading this!
I feel like a little kid on her first day of school. What a terrifying thought that is! I have always been shy of crowds, introductions and so on. But I really wanted to start a pastry journal, mostly for myself, to keep me going and to force me to bake everyday. I am a pastry chef, you see. And the first thing people ask me is… “So where do you work?”… “Hmmm…” I think to myself… “Well… currently I don’t work anywhere. I’m taking care of my son”. “ohh…” they respond and stop there.
It’s funny because I haven’t worked outside of my house for almost two years but I have never stopped considering myself a pastry chef. Isn’t that funny? If I was working at a store or if I had a Marketing Coordinator title, I wouldn’t say that I’m a store clerk or a Marketing Coordinator after two years. But yes, I am a pastry chef and so are my uncles and so was my grandfather, back in the Basque Country, that is.
So this is my introduction and my first official blog. Ciao!
Rice Pudding (Arroz con Leche) coming soon…..

Love pastries and cookies at Wolfermans.
Hi there! I just came by way of tastepotting. your photos are lovely and your orange curd creamsicles are on my list of things to do.
i can relate completely about the pastry chef title, though for some reason i took it the other direction. i have not worked professionally as a PC in nearly three years and now when people ask what i do i tell them, i am not a pastry chef. maybe your family history has kept you more grounded in that identity??
anyway, i’ve enjoyed poking around your lovely blog and will visit again. do stop by PINCH if you get a chance. :)
Uauu, que recetas y que fotos,..
llevo días sin hacerme nada, creo que imprimo algunas recetas y las llevo a la práctica.
Muchísimas gracias!

Such a humble person you are, Aran! :)
Wow, what fabulous background.
Wow, there is nothing wrong if you just work at your house as long as you practice what you were doing. Im excited to read your next blog.
I just came across your blog from a link in Elizabeth Messina’s fb page… beautiful beautiful work…I’m amazed on how someone can be such a wonderful chef, stylist and an amazing photographer too!!! I have a son who is almost two years old now and I know how hard it is to be able to concentrate on a career…which in part…I had to put on a side for a while (I’m a photographer too)…but your blog is such an inspiration to me…and gives me some hope to be able to get back to my photography work and be a wonderful mom too :), Thank you
Hello Aran!
I have long since fell in love with the beautiful photos of your blog from the very beginning. Today I went back to read your first blog post. I feel like I can really identify with your sentiments and motivations in starting your blog.
I am now home with my baby boy, only 2 months old, but I have not been in the professional kitchen since the end of October. People ask me what I do, I hesitate, thinking who am I these days and then I say I am a pastry chef and they say oh where do you work and I say well I was working at a restaurant in a small hotel, but now I am taking some time off. I love being able to be at home more, but I do miss whipping up the dessert of the day and the prep for the lunch and dinner services. When I go to pick up bread at the bakery down the street, I now linger a little longer over the display of desserts and take in the aroma of fresh baked bread. As we get our little routine together, this tiny person and I, I hope to be able to spend more time in the kitchen. He already has his high chair with a newborn attachment in the kitchen where we can hang out while I prepare dinner!
Thank you for continuing your beautiful blog! You are an amazing inspiration!
Thank you very much Kate. Life is a compilation of stages as my mom always reminds me so enjoy this one, but never forget your passions and fire inside. All the best. x
