A Free Food and Travel Photography Class with Penny De Los Santos

The Power of Food Photography from Penny De Los Santos on Vimeo.

Penny De Los Santos moves people.

If you love food and travel photography like I do, watch the video above and tell me this isn’t the most inspiring piece you have seen in a while.

I get this way every time I get to spend time with Penny. I was lucky to have her teach a workshop here last year and ever since, she has become a close friend. She is a constant source of inspiration for me, both personally and professionally. I have seen the effect she has on others as well.

Everyone is swept away by her passion and commitment. I witnessed it last year at BlogHer Food where she received a standing ovation after her session. Remarkable.

And all this to tell you that you could also be a part of all this, and for FREE!

Penny is teaching a FREE 3-day class in Seattle beginning on May 13th at 10am PST (hosted by Creative Live). She is looking for a few audience members to attend the class so if you are interested, please watch her video or visit her post for more details. The class will also be live-streamed, so if you cannot attend in person, you could follow online.

This really is a tremendous opportunity and a gift to all of us. I hope you can join!

  15. I have to be the luckiest person in the world to earn such accolades from you, one of my favorite blogs and people. Thank you so much for this post and more importantly your friendship. Con tanto carino, un besota grande

  16. KInga- I think you are missing the entire point of this post.

First of all, Penny is one of today’s top food and travel photographers, being a senior contributor for Saveur magazine, National Geographic or Martha Stewart, etc. She has photographed endless books as well.

Being a photojournalist, traveling to foreign countries and to be able to capture the essence in images is really, really difficult. Photojournalism is not about pretty pictures or beautifully styled food. It is raw and real. You are thrown into an assignment and a short period of time, you must connect with people and make them open up to you. You cannot be intimidated and you have to open up to the experience. That is a very very difficult thing to do.

And secondly, the fact that Penny is donating her valuable time to share with all of us is a true gift. Who does that these days?

    She’s a gem!

penny- Thank YOU for doing this for all of us! Otro besote grande para ti, amiga mia.

    Thanks all!

Don’t just click and sign up. Jump for joy at the chance to learn, be inspired and motivated by such a gifted human being.

Thanks for this post and reminder. It’s locked on my calendar.

    Aran,
I will watch the video on my lage screen but first wanted to tell you how thrilled I am about this.
How truly fortunate you are Aran to be around such incredible talent by such incredibly wonderful artists!
I would pretty much give anything to be able to attend the Blog Her conference that you are speaking of. How wonderful that you will be speaking also.
Is Blog Her something that anyone can attend?
In the meantime though, I will look forward to watching this video that you have been so great to provide.
One more thing…my daughter and I agree that only Aran at Canelle et Vanille could make a fish look so gorgeous in your last post!
Wishing you and your sweet family a wonderful Easter.
    Best,
    Lisa

  23. lisa- thanks so much for your kind words! BlogHer is for bloggers mainly but I suppose anyone could attend. Why not right?

  27. Aran,

Buscando una recet sin gluten y sin huevos, pero que aun fuese delicada, elegante y deliciosa, sabia que tenia que parar aqui, en tu maravilloso espacio. Decidi hacer los pistachio sandies y quedaron PERFECTOS. Sencillamente espectaculares.

Gracias, como siempre no me desamparas!

  28. Those pictures really are wonderful. I want to eat everything in the photos.

  29. Jesse says:

Those sauteed tomatoes look like something you would see on the real women of philadelphia! I learned about the contest from candycane’s post on another recipe on this blog. If you like to cook and know how to use cream cheese it’s def something worth looking into!
