UPDATE: Due to legal reasons, we will be moving the foraging trip to a different location that we will disclose soon. We will meet at Grand Central Station on Friday, July 5th at 9am. Exciting!

What do you say about joining me on a foraging trip?

Did you know that edible wild foods grow all around parks in the summer? Berries, mushrooms, all kinds of wild greens….

That is exactly what we will be doing July 5th and 6th of this year.

I am teaming up with Karen Mordechai of Sunday Suppers once again to offer a 2-day workshop in New York City.

Our first morning, we will spend two hours with an expert forager (a surprise guest!) walking through the park learning about different plants and photographing nature. From Central Park, we will move on to Karen’s light-filled studio in Brooklyn doing hands-on food and prop styling demos, learning about the basics of food photography, manipulating natural light, composition and some post-processing work. You will learn about my philosophy and workflow and practice yourself with my guidance.

I have been really excited about foraging the last few years following my dad’s passion for mushroom picking. The times I have gone with him, nature and silence fill my ever-thinking mind to quiet down. I find peace in the walking and breathing.

I look forward to learning from one of the few experts that are licensed to forage in Central Park.

Then, we will cook, style and photograph.

What do you say?

You can read more details below. Hope to see you there!

    Hi Aran,
thinking about joining you for the workshop but was wondering what photography equipment we should come with to best enjoy the weekend??

    • Aran says:

For equipment you would need a DSLR camera (preferably), your favorite lens, USB cable to connect camera to laptop, laptop, tripod (optional), some props (optional). Thanks.

You always plan the best workshops! I wish I could join you. Foraging is so calming and brings me closer to nature.

  6. What complete fun! I took an urban foraging workshop in Denver and have become friends with the woman who led it. It’s amazing how much food is really available in unsuspecting urban areas. I’ve never looked at the weeds in my garden the same since! I will have to think about this workshop Aran; might be too good to pass up!

  7. Hope to make it this time, Aran! I love how creative this workshop sounds — I grew up foraging for wild edibles too. So fun :)

Looking for the address for the studio so I can se if I get get around as well as wondering if the lunches provided are or can be vegan since i will be away from home

    • Aran says:

The studio is on Kent Ave in Williamsburg. As for the meals, we can arrange to have vegan food and that is usually not a problem. We always ask workshop attendees their dietary restrictions. Thanks.

    Hi there,
I’m visiting NYC in July and was looking for a food photography class to do. I know it’s very last minute! I know that this workshop is now sold out but in case there is a cancellation, do let me know. I’d love to attend. I’m coming all the way from Australia! best – Adrian
