Gewurtzeminer and Watermelon Gelee and A New Perspective
I made these gelee shots probably two months ago, but I never really came around to editing the photos and blogging about them. I wasn’t happy with how the photos turned out so I left them aside and went on with my recipes. Until now, that is.
We got a new computer recently and this changed my whole perspective regarding my photos. My photos have never looked so different. Isn’t that funny? We have always had PC’s but we decided it was time to update and get a Mac. We had been wanting one for a while but were too lazy to do the switch. We weren’t sure of how all our files would transfer and that kept postponing the purchase. We finally got one a couple of week ago and I have to say transferring our data from one to the other hasn’t been painless, but at least not disastrous.
I was going through my photos and I found these again. I realized that they looked very different in my iMac than in my PC. Is that possible? Before I felt the colors were too vibrant, too loud, but now I sort of like them.
The shots were super refreshing and light. I know some might say Gewurtzeminer is for the “weak” but I love it served cold in the summer. Watermelon and all varieties of melon also remind me of hot summer days of my childhood. I suppose I am not the only one.
I don’t even have the recipe anymore but I believe I used about 6 sheets of gelatin per liter of liquid. I sweetened the Gewurtzeminer to taste and the same with the watermelon puree. I have a mini melon baller that I rarely use but I pulled it out of my tool box just for this. I topped the gelees with watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew.
Definitely season appropriate!
I remember drinking Gewurtzeminer with my grandfather on hot summer days on the patio, nice and chilled and without the headache!
Very resfreshing!
wow I love those shots!! i’ve always wondered how vast the difference is between mac and pc, especially in terms of colours. 10 times out of 10 though, people always seem to prefer macs. maybe it’s time i get one…
a mí los colores y la calidad de tus fotos me alucinan. Qué tengas una buena semana!
These look delicious and refreshing. the photographs are beautiful. ,,as if they where floating!
this looks very refreshing, and I love the colors. We’re thinking of switching from pc to mac too!
I am glad you saved the images as they are so light and refreshing. Never knew there was a difference between computers and am curious now. But the reality is, which ever computer you use, your photos are stunning!
oo these look so summery and gorgeous!!! and the pics are fantastic as always Aran. YUM!!!
I have to agree with Kim, your photos are sensational regardless of the computer. The wine adds a nice dimension, I really like this. Thanks Aran!
I’d say those pictures are absolutely gorgeous! I’m ready to switch over to a Mac, too. The PC just doesn’t cut it when it comes to photography.
Sounds like a refreshing, wonderful summer treat!
Looks so refreshing – great photography Aran.
I love the vibrant colours (but you already knew that!)
Aran,
Welcome to the wonderful world of MACs. I have been a MAC user for over ten years and can’t imagine going back. It’s so much better for anything art related and so user friendly. Your pictures look so refreshing and beautiful.:-)
These photos look amazing!!!!! I have had my Mac for a few months, I could never go back. However, I have the occasional headache still…but I think it is worth it. You have to tell me…Do you use Photoshop? If so, I need to invest!
These photos are amazing! I’d hate to see your other rejects ;) Yay for a new computer.
These photos look gorgeous! I don’t know what I would do without my Mac… you made a great switch!
Just so you know, they are stunning on my PC as well. We are a mixed family, a Mac and a PC and it really is amazing the difference you see on the two screens.
Having said that, your photography would look fabulous on any screen!
Instead of a Mac vs PC question, I would look into making sure both your monitors for your Mac and PC are calibrated.
I use one of these:

Great blog, as always – you do amazing work :)
Aran,
This is so not you. Off course you can create another recipe, right? I am waiting…
Your photos always beautiful…
And congratulation for your new MAC. In our family, we all have MacBook Pro (so that we can carry them everywhere we go) and PCs.
These pictures are so pretty! I love Gewurtzeminer…wishing I had a bottle in the fridge right now!
I just had a delicious gewuetzeminer from Arista winery, but it isn’t very traditional (not very sweet). I bet I have to use a sweeter wine. Also, these pictures have really vibrant summer hues. I guess the Mac was worth it.
I want to run out and buy a melon baller right now! Love the vibrant colors; that’s the best part about summer melons.
I love the colors…they look brilliant! I can just imagine how refreshingly delicious this is :)
The same thing happened to me when we bought a new computer! How weird is that :) The gelee looks wonderful and very refreshing! I adore Gewurztraminer.
Hola Aran!! Lo siento pero te tenía un poco abandonada, entre las vacacions y la organización del bautizo del peque… pero veo que no has bajado ni un poquito el nivelazo!!!!!!
Besos,
Ana
Oooh, Gewurtzeminer is one of my favorite white wines… We always bring a couple of bottles home from Germany. Beautiful pictures!
Your photos are extremely lovely!
Are those ground pistachios on top?
these really look summery :-) cool and refreshing . Great photos. The upgrade was worth it
Jendeak esaten du argazkiak lantzeko eta erakusteko Mac dabil PCa baino askoz hobeto. Nik hemen ikusten dudanez, argazkiak ezezik izozkiak ere primeran geratu zitzaizu.
Muxu bat, Aran. Asko gustatzen zait egiten duzun lana.
Gewurtztraminer is one of the few wines I really like :) I’m curious about the combo with melon…
I love the colours, and would have loved them if they were more vibrant too ;)
Refreshing indeed! Beautiful colours, Aran.
I have a Mac and I always see the difference when I use a PC. Try to print your pictures, there will be an enormous gap between the colours you see on your Mac and the colors on the paper. Except if your Mac monitor is “well calibrated” what is not the case in public relation agencies for example…
I love these pictures, I want to taste !
Oh no, Aran, you’ve moved over to the dark side! ;P I’ve always been a PC person, but have secretly wanted a mac.
I love your blog, any single post, any single photo, mac or pc, they are truly beautiful. This post is so refreshing and vivid, and you gave me a good idea. My daughter is having a tea party on friday, I’ll try to replicate this wonderful and beautiful dessert for the girls, using some sparkling cider. That’s if you don’t mind.
Ah, more stunning photos to admire. And I love the delicate look yet brilliant color of the melon balls.
That is one beautiful use of a melon baller! Yum!
Welcome to the Mac world. Everything looks so much better on it. I’m always stunned when I see my blog or any one of my favourite websites on a PC. It always looks so different. In other words, nowhere near how good it looks on a mac :) Lovely pictures as always.
Hi Aran! Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac! I have always used a Mac..I love the editing process! I use Illustrator and Photoshop, BUT, I have a terrible camera, which my adorable husband hopes to remedy soon! As you have found that the Mac makes a difference in your photo quality I hope to find that an upgrade in cameras will help mine!
You have a beautiful blog! Ciao!
I LOVE this dessert and these photos. So beautiful and playful and light and heavenly. I’m glad you decided to share them. This will definitely have to figure into my summer plans.
Good to hear you got a Mac. So easy and best for this kind of work. Congrats!
